The Green Man, And The False Seeker
Reminds me of a similar tale of the green man, there was once a man who wanted to seek divine knowledge. Thus he prayed day and night, until one day the green man appeared before him.
The green man asked what is it that he seeks, the man replied, "I want to know the answers to everything."
The green man said, "well to know the answers, you need to come with on a small voyage by sea." On the other side of an island, across the sea lies the answers to your questions.
The man agreed, and they set sail, rowing the boat to fare the dream.
During the journey the conditions were tough, and the man kept on insisting the green man, "how much longer will it take to reach the shore?"
The green man replied, "Not yet, just wait."
The man grew tired along the journey, and they were able to make it to the shore line, but the man had mentally suffered a lot of trauma during his journey.
He stood up, to the green man asking for the reward he was promised.
The green man, replied, "there is another journey we have to take to the oasis beyond the shore."
The man angrily threatened the green man, "show me where the answers lie."
The green man replied with a smile on his face "Patience is a virtue, you could not even wait for a little journey yet you demand answers without effort."
The man was shaken and gave up on his endeavor.
The green man disappeared as soon as the man went home.
The moral of the story was, to seek anything in life we have to persevere. The answers lie in the process of life, and not the reward that comes afterward.
That is what the green man wanted the man to realize i.e. life doesn't thrive upon rewards, but the process of living is what matters.
To seek the answers, one should have patience. As the journey is one that will break you. If you can't during the process, you definitely won't make it to the end.
So live the time, with gusto and let things follow.
